Look what's happened to Oceanside! This community which was once a summer movie colony for such stars as Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks lost favor in 1942 when the U.S. Marine Corps base was built there. Over the years it has been thought as a "Marine" town but with the "buzz" always in the air that Oceanside was on its way up! In the past few years as San Diego prices have sky rocketed the unglamorous reputation of a Marine Town has ceased to matter!

Buyers are fixed on the fact that for a lower price they can live in one of the different areas of "Oceanside" from the beach areas, which is one of the most reasonable ones in the county, to the inland area of Ocean Hills which borders Vista and has views of the Ocean from many of its homes. A beach area condo's can start as low as $400,000 and the beach front homes can command upwards of $5 million, with many other choices starting at $500,000 for a single family home. Owners of Oceanside properties will be happy to learn that it was the fastest appreciating market through the fourth quarter of 2004 in the entire U.S. The school system was was at one point not one of the best, however in 2000 a bond for $125,000 million was granted to the School System to upgrade and build new schools - some areas like Ocean Hills attend the Vista School District.

Oceanside is divided into three zones-(92054) the beach and old downtown which feature ocean front properties, condos, town homes and fabulous new "row houses" in the fashion of San Francisco located just blocks from the wide open sandy beaches and the Pier. Moving east (92057) the homes get older but still some nice sections and still further east to the last zone (92056) which can border Vista you can find large tracts of newer homes surrounded by open land. The homes range from small square footage to larger ones with three car garages and gated subdivisions.

New jobs in biotechnology have helped boost the year round population to about 170,000 and demand for second homes near the beach communities has risen quickly. With the word "Ocean" in its name this beach community is well on its way to being one of San Diego's most popular areas to purchase a home!.
